Though the case against the suspect who is facing a murder charge has been adjourned till Sept. 3,, however it was gathered that  Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Ajibade, remanded Imafidon in Ikoyi Prisons and ordered that the case file should be sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

According to NAN, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Maria Dauda, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 15, at 7.00 p.m., at No. 25, Apata St., Agege, Lagos. She said that the accused had slapped his wife Hope, 42, which resulted to her death. The offence contravened Section 224 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and it stipulates death sentence for murder.

Few months ago, there was also a report that a father of 12, Umaru Jeriri Duwatsu, of Gusau local government area in Zamfara state slapped his wife, Inno, to death. The incident occurred, Blueprint gathered, following a minor disagreement over alleged favouritism of the co-wife.

The village head of Jerin Duwatsu, Magaji Hamidu, said the deceased’s wife  had protested against what she described as “injustice” by her husband by favouring the co-wife, a situation that led the husband to physically confront the wife and in the end he slapped her to death.

It was also  learnt that Umar had spent over 40 years with his deceased wife and they were blessed with 12 children. When contacted, the Zamfara state Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawal Abdullahi, confirmed the incident, saying that within the shortest time possible the accused would be arraigned in court for murder.

“Investigation is ongoing at the SCID and she  will soon be charged to court for prosecution. The Command is using this medium to call on members of public to be law abiding and avoid taking laws into their hands. Instead, they should report all complaints to the nearest police formation for action” he said.
