An accident between two 18-seater commercial buses collided along Tsafe-Gusau road in Zamfara State, reportedly claimed the lives of 6 people on Friday.
Zamfara Police Command Spokesperson, DSP Mohammed Shehu, who confirmed the incident said that the accident which claimed the lives of 6 people was caused by overspeeding.
“Fortunately, our men who are on constant patrol on the road, were at hand and they immediately came to the victims’ rescue.
“Five persons died on the spot while the sixth died when our patrol team brought them to the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau,” said the police spokesman.
NAN reported that the police spokesperson who charged motorists to avoid overspeeding and reckless driving as well as ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before plying the road, further disclosed that the survivors were treated at the Accident and Emergency Ward while the dead bodies were deposited in the hospital mortuary.
This is coming few days after it was reported that a member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Saidu Yarkufoji, lost nine members of his family in a car accident that happened along Sokoto-Gusau road.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Zamfara Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that 10 people were killed in the head-on collision between a Volkswagen Golf car and a Coca-Cola truck.
The lawmaker, representative of the Bakura State Constituency, lost three biological children, four grandchildren and two sisters in the accident. His driver, the only male victim of the accident, was the tenth casualty in the fatal crash.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Route Commander, Nasiru Ahmed, the other two people who were in the car with the victims sustained various degrees of injuries and were still receiving treatment at Yariman Bakura Special Hospital, Gusau.
